DFN Gallery is pleased to present NYC, an
exhibition of paintings, drawings, and mixed media depicting New York
City, featuring the work of over 40 established contemporary artists.
New York City is the muse and model for many of the
world’s best representational artists. Inspired by their surroundings,
the artists in NYC capture the city’s unique street life,
architecture, topography, and energy.
The centerpiece of the exhibition, Christopher
Evans’ painting “In The Light Of Memory: A Spherical Panorama From The
South Tower of The World Trade Center,” provides a 360-degree view of
the New York metropolitan area that is no longer available. NYC
also includes the work of a number of artists who had participated in
the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s studio program at The World Trade
Center, including Olive Ayhens, Jacqueline Gourevitch, Carl Scorza, and
Robert Selwyn.
NYC includes three generations of New
York-based artists, and includes a wide range of approaches and styles:
Chuck Connelly, Rackstraw Downes, Pamela Talese, and Jordan Wolfson work
directly from life; Tom Birkner and Douglas Safranek reference on-site
studies in their studios; Ben Aronson, Susan Grossman, and Dan Witz roam
the New York streets with cameras in search of a starting point for
their compositions; Rick Finkelstein and Tula Telfair create images
derived from experience and imagination.
